EAST LOS ANGELES, CA (February 17, 2020)…East Los Angeles beer brand founder/music industry veteran, Julio Trejo (Cerveceria Mundial, Priority Records, Capitol Records, The 3 Collective) and business partner and wife, Janie Fainsan (Cerveceria Mundial, GameFly), officially launch a new company, Mundial Beverages, to serve as an umbrella corporation for its current beer brand, Cerveceria Mundial, and upcoming ventures, including a new East Los Angeles coffee brand, Cafes Mundial. The first offering on the coffee side is a collaboration roast with popular Eastside foodie destination, Sara’s Market. “We are incredibly excited to partner with Sara’s Market for our first coffee roast. Sara and Steven Valdes are the undisputed leaders of this current foodie revolution happening on the Eastside of LA. They also represent a cool new perspective for supportive Latino entrepreneurship.” He adds, “Our first coffee is called the ‘Eastside Roast.’ It will hopefully end once and for all this debate of what’s the ‘Eastside.’ Look, if you are not East of the LA River…you are not the ‘Eastside. Period.”
Trejo and team are currently gearing up for the latest run of the hit pale ale, “La Codorniz/Quail Pale Ale/QPA” from the beer brand, Cerveceria Mundial, they launched back in April of 2019. It’s expected back in stores by summer of 2020. The return of the QPA will undoubtedly bring some much needed excitement back into the LA beer scene.

ABOUT CERVECERIA MUNDIAL:
Cerveceria Mundial was founded in East Los Angeles in 2017 with a mission to not only produce incredible California-made beer, but also showcase local music, art, food and life in general with an Angeleno perspective spiked with a little “east of the LA River” multicultural/multilingual flavor. The focus was Mexican AND American culture in English, Spanish and ‘Spanglish.’ The 100% Centennial West Coast style pale ale first received buzz from both beer fans and media alike early this year for being the first Mexican-American pale ale sold in the US. The beer was brewed by Hermitage Brewing Company in San Jose, CA based on a recipe developed by Tim McDonnell (formerly of Highland Park Brewing, Calusa Brewing and currently at Monday Night Brewing). Tim was recently awarded two medals at the Great American Beer Fest in Denver, CO: a gold for “Timbo Pils” from Highland Park Brewing and a bronze for “Last Will and Testament” from Midnight Brewing in Atlanta. The QPA quickly sold out restaurants/bars and at independent retail locations in Southern California.
Downtown Los Angeles based advertising agency, Quantasy, recently held an intimate panel discussion called "Beers & Banter." Cerveceria Mundial co-founder and CEO, Julio Trejo was a panel guest alongside: SoCal Cerveceros Homebrew Club president, Ray Ricky Rivera (also VP of Operations for CM), Crowns & Hops CEO, Beny Ashburn and Eagle Rock Brewery co-founder, Jeremy Raub. The panel gave insight on their respective business and how each navigate the fast changing beer industry. Other topics discussed were the influx of diversity within craft beer, the challenges of building a beer brand and the future of beer in Los Angeles. The panel fielded questions from the audience asking about various things from homebrewing kombucha and beer to strategies for growth and future business plans. The Quantasy staff was a diverse audience of about 50 creatives led by panel moderator Carlos Aguilar. The group was eager to taste the delicious beers on hand and we were happy to share! Eagle Rock Brewery brought a few can selections including: Populist IPA (7% abv), Manifesto Belgian style witbier (5.7% abv), Rosé Gosé vegan kettle sour (4.5%). Also on hand was the award winning homebrew, Botas Blancas, by Los Barbones Cerveceria. The Botas Blancas is a Belgian style witbier brewed with pomelo zest and has quickly become a fan favorite. It took Gold at the San Diego Regionals for the 2019 National Homebrew Competition. Botas Blancas has a total of 7 homebrew awards including 1st place and Best of Show Belgian at the 2019 Romancing The Beer homebrew competition. Also pouring was a Belgian dark and "Lamberto XXVIII" Imperial Porter coming in at 11.9% (pictured below). And of course we had cold cans of CM's flagship QPA on hand! We are excited to officially announce the newest member to join our team is the super cool, down to earth, husband, father and avid homebrewer: Fred Llamas! In his new position at CM, Fred will be our Director of Sales. Fred brings with him a deep passion for craft beer and homebrewing along with an extensive background in sales. What really excites us is he is now our main eyes and ears on the ground in Long Beach. What's even cooler than that is he's originally from East LA! Fred has hit the ground running and has already been making an impact in his short time with Cerveceria Mundial. We absolutely love his drive, passion and his unique perspective on the ever changing industry. Fred took time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions! CM: In three words describe what it’s like working with Cerveceria Mundial?
FRED: Exciting, informational, creative
CM: As markets become more saturated with new beer brands, how do you see CM carving out its own identity?
FRED: By being unique and genuine, generally speaking, but it starts with great beer. With CM you’ll get a quality, delicious product crafted by people who are socially conscious and want to not only quench the thirst of our community but also celebrate our culture.
CM: Tell us what kinds of skills and expertise you bring to the table? What makes you the right fit for CM?
FRED: I’ve worked in sales for almost 20 years and I’m very confident, with our quality beer and innovative concept, I can get our product sold where we want it to be. I’m the right fit for this team because my professional history is in an area my partners don’t have very much experience with. I’m also extremely passionate about beer. From home brewing it to drinking it, I’ve really hit my stride in the beer world. Doing something on a professional level with beer seems like dream come true.
CM: Name your top 5 go-to beers and why?
FRED: Top 5 beers, tough call because there are so many good ones. Locally, in no particular order, I like John Brown Ale from Liberation, Hidden Hollow from Ten Mile, Dreamsicle IPA and the house stout from Long Beach Beer Lab and Baktuns from Ambitious Ales. Branching out a little wider, I like the beers from LA Ale Works, Smog City, Yorkshire Square, Pure Project, Lord Hobo and...wait, that might be more than 5.
CM: Name a great spot for good suds & good grub in Long Beach?
Fred: All the Long Beach spots have great beer and bring in amazing trucks and pop ups. however, for guaranteed amazing beer AND amazing food, can’t beat LB Beer Lab, although you can’t go wrong with Dutch’s Brewhouse firmly entrenched at #2.

EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KABC) -- Cerveceria Mundial calls itself "the first true Mexican-American beer." The "virtual" brewing company's mission is to produce quality, California-made craft beer with an Angeleno perspective spiked with a little "east of the LA River" multicultural/multilingual flavor.
"We're really excited to launch here in Boyle Heights. It was only fitting," said Julio Trejo, founder and co-owner of Cerveceria Mundial. "This beer represents not only the Eastside, but the sub cultures of the Eastside."
"There's a lot of activity happening in Downtown, the South Bay, pretty much all over Los Angeles. But now we're starting to see a legitimate, real deal craft beer scene here in the Eastside."
The new beer company held its launch event at Xelas, a bar in Boyle Heights that's become a popular destination for craft beer fans east of Downtown L.A.
"We feel that it's important to create a platform that embraces Latinos in craft beer and showcase what they're brewing," said Corissa Hernandez, co-owner of Xelas Bar. "In this case, we have someone who's homegrown that we're not going to overlook."
"I think that there's a big void in the market. I didn't think there was enough representation for Latinos," said Trejo. "So I partnered with a friend, and we developed a recipe."
Trejo brought Ray Ricky Rivera on his team as the V.P of Operations. Rivera is a co-founder of the So-Cal Cerveceros, a Latino craft beer homebrew club that has grown to over 150 members.
"We're branding this and promoting this as a Mexican-American Pale Ale," said Rivera. "Technically, that's not a real style. That doesn't really exist, but we're saying, 'Hey, we're Mexican-American. There's not a lot of people like us in the beer industry. This is our Pale Ale.'"
Cerveceria Mundial's first beer named La Codorniz Quail Ale is a tribute to the California state bird. It's available only in cans at select stores throughout Los Angeles.

What a day! We are so thankful and appreciative of everyone who braved the heat and navigated the madness of a busy downtown Sunday to be with us for our merch release popup. It was nice to see familiar faces and so many newcomers who will now be able to say, "I was there for the very first pop up shop!" We can't say THANK YOU enough. We had a great time hanging out with everyone, engaging in some fun convos, playing music and popping cans of QPA. L.A.Beer Week 2019 was definitely one for the books. As the premiere celebration of independent commercial brewers/breweries, the week long festivities is always highly anticipated by LA beer fans. Thursday June 20th, was no exception. The night marked the official company launch for Cerveceria Mundial, and the first L.A. Beer Week event held by Latinos in Boyle Heights - and it did not disappoint! Xelas owners, Corissa Hernandez and Gabriel Paredes went above and beyond to welcome us and make sure the night was a memorable one. The place was packed, the QPA was flowing and the energy was electric.The amazingly talented Reggae/Ska band The Delirians did what they do best and dropped some gems on all our ears. We can't thank them enough! East L.A. BBQ Co. was serving up some delicious Tri Tip braised with our QPA making for some amazing brisket barbacoa. The support and love from locals, craft beer fans, friends and family was definitely felt, appreciated and very humbling. THANK YOU ALL!
